The face of Lutheranism in East Central Illinois will change this fall. Three small-town congregations that have been part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – the largest Lutheran denomination in the U.S. – for 22 years are switching affiliations. The dispute pits orthodox, or traditional, ministry against progressive changes. Report: 1 dead, 17 detained in Brazil gay parade
SAO PAULO — Authorities say a teenager has been shot to death in a fight between rival gangs at a gay parade in southeastern Brazil. Police say the teenager was shot as the gangs got into a confrontation heading to the parade attended by nearly 70,000 people in Juiz de Fora. Authorities told local media another teen was shot in the leg, but the injury was not life threatening.
