10 years of Harry Potter films in 48 hours
Nineteen and a half hours.
That’s how long it will take moviewatchers to view all eight Harry Potter movies once “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ premieres early in the morning of July 15.
And that’s only if they start them back to back.

‘Zookeeper’ surprisingly fun
One doesnt head into Zookeeper expecting high-brow cinema. We expect to see star Kevin James fall down a lot and bang his head on things. We expect to check our brains at the door, laugh and be entertained the movie has talking animals, for goodness sake.
So Zookeeper is what it is but it does it with good intentions, emerging as a harmless, silly yet surprisingly fun time. Its clearly a vehicle tailored to James fearless physical comedy and likable personality and he shines in some very funny moments.
The movie is much funnier than expected in parts, with some comedic touches that shouldnt come as an accident, since the script is credited to five FIVE screenwriters, including James (Adam Sandler, coincidentally, is one of the films producers and provides the voice of one of the zoo animals).

‘Monte Carlo’ fails, even as a teen wish-fulfillment fantasy
Selena Gomez is all girl in her first star-vehicle big-screen comedy, Monte Carlo. But thats a problem, as she is so utterly out of her league with her grown women co-stars as to seem like a mascot to Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy.
Monte Carlo is a sad-faced and old-fashioned mistaken-identity comedy about a waitress from Texas who saved and saved for her dream trip to Paris to celebrate graduation from high school, only to have the trip go sour until she discovers she looks just like a snooty British heiress. So Grace (Gomez) takes the place of Cordelia (Gomez) with the willing support of her brassy, sassy all-Texas older pal Emma (Cassidy of Gossip Girl and Supernatural) and her reluctant, repressed stepsister to be (Meester).
Madcap mayhem ensues. Except it doesnt. Whatever the Jules Bass novel that this is based on had going for it must have been lost in the vast committee of screenwriters and endless committee meetings of producers. Talk about wringing the charm out of something.

‘Transformers’ shaping up with year’s best weekend
LOS ANGELES —”Transformers” robots have lost some of their money-making power but delivered the biggest opening weekend domestically so far this year.
Distributor Paramount Pictures said Sunday that “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” took in $97.4 million domestically in its first weekend. That beat the $90.2 million debut of Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.”
But the domestic haul for the sci-fi sequel was down from the $109 million first weekend for 2009’s “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.”

LOS ANGELES — Pixar Animation remains undefeated at the box-office races.
The Disney unit’s animated sequel “Cars 2″ cruised to a No. 1 finish with a $68 million opening weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday. That makes 12 wins in a row for Pixar since the company’s first feature film, 1995’s “Toy Story.”
“Cars 2″ added $42.9 million in 18 overseas markets, giving it a worldwide total of $110.9 million.

Best bets on movies opening today (June 24)
Cars 2 (G)
The original “Cars” was admittedly my least favorite of the Pixar films, even though that’s like picking the ugliest diamond at a gem shop. Still, anticipation overall has been revving full-speed for this return of star race car Lightning McQueen (returning voice of Owen Wilson), who travels with his tow-truck pal Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) overseas for a new adventure.
The Tree of Life (PG-13)
