SCONCERTO 2008: Martesana in Rock
Finalmente dopo tante peripezie nella zona nord-est di Milano ho avuto la possibilità di scambiare quattro parole con alcuni gruppi emergenti (oltre che sentirli suonare ovviamente). L’occasione mi è stata data dal C.A.G. LABIRINTO di Cernusco sul Naviglio e da quello di Cassina de’ Pecchi, i quali ospitavano a SCONCERTO 2008 (in Villa Fiorita) una competizione tra band emergenti della Martesana organizzata da Databand. Premetto di aver focalizzato la mia attenzione esclusivamente sulla fase ad eliminatorie dei giorni 15-16-17 Giugno 2008, e non sulle finali. La competizione poteva essere seguita in tempo reale su www.spaziogiovani.org, oppure in streaming su www.radiomxt.com.
Il primo giorno si sono esibiti Esalion, Punto Statico, EXP e Sputnix. I primi prendono il nome da un pianeta dell’immaginario fumettistico di Topolino e nascono nel 1999 da un’idea di Guglielmo (basso) e Niccolò (chitarra), i quali hanno inoltre un progetto parallelo di DJ Set (dal blog www.myspace.com/dueconi), e raggiungono l’attuale formazione nel 2001. Le influenze sono principalmente quelle di gruppi come Afterhours (dei quali per altro hanno suonato in modo più che discreto Male di miele), Marlene Kuntz, Marta sui Tubi e Verdena; si sente dalle melodie dolci, ma nello stesso tempo malinconiche, interrotte di tanto in tanto da riff pungenti, che, però, sembrano rimanere troppo spesso a mezz’aria, risultando così poco incisivi. Molto belli i testi, attinti principalmente dalla sfera sentimentale del cantante/frontman, che a sua volta li interpreta con vigore e passione. Peccato per qualche errore di troppo e per la corda della chitarra rotta nel bel mezzo di un assolo che stava tenendo tutti col fiato sospeso.
Il secondo gruppo a salire sul palco è Punto Statico, un gruppo di Carugate che nel pop Rock melodico affonda le sue giovani radici. Mi sono risparmiato la fatica di assistere per intero alla loro esibizione (e di intervistarli): niente da dire sulla tecnica del giovane trio ma credo che i testi melensi e monotoni (tutti rigorosamente dedicati alla ragazza del cantante) e le musiche eccessivamente leggere non siano piaciute molto all’audience, fatta eccezione delle loro fan quindicenni.
In seguito è stata la volta degli EXP, un gruppo hard rock sperimentale di Pessano con Bornago nato da un’idea di Gianluca (batteria) e Johnny (chitarra) davanti ad una birra nel Gennaio 2007; la formazione attuale si avrà soltanto un paio di mesi più tardi con l’arrivo di un secondo chitarrista e del bassista Polly (frontman degli Only Dust, anch’essi in gara a SCONCERTO 2008). Notevole è la loro presenza sul palco: non ci si stancherebbe mai di vederli saltellare a destra e a manca; inoltre sono abili ad infiammare la platea con vertiginosi giri di basso e con una batteria suonata con vera potenza, per non parlare delle due chitarre che dialogano tra loro (oltre che con il pubblico) con assoli ben studiati e coinvolgenti. Un altro punto di forza degli EXP è la continua ricerca di una perfetta sintesi tra le diverse influenze d’ogni singolo membro, come Jimi Hendrix, Metallica, Nirvana e Tool. Gli ultimi a salire sul palco sono gli Sputnix (compagno di viaggio in lingua russa), band nata a Cassina de’ Pecchi nell’ormai lontano 1997 dall’incontro tra Nash (voce e chitarra), Bud (basso), Rizla (batteria), ai quali si sono aggiunti in seguito Spuddy (tastiere) e Miguel (chitarra). Si sentono molto a loro agio sul palco, forse grazie anche al fatto che “giocano in casa” e che quasi tutti tifano per loro. Riescono trasmettere energia positiva a chi li ascolta, grazie a un’alternanza di pezzi propriamente punk e altri ska, quasi reggae, nei quali è notevole l’impronta melodica derivante dalle tastiere. Un’altra sorpresa per chi li ascolta la prima volta è la singolare collaborazione con Ricky, che rappa furiosamente sui due pezzi senza dubbio più amati dai loro fan, un po’ per la loro originalità musicale, un po’ per i testi scherzosi e disimpegnati che in qualche modo li contraddistinguono. Questo gruppo vanta (se così si può dire) una collaborazione live con i Finley al Rolling Stone di Milano e con i Vanilla Sky al Musicdrome; inoltre un loro pezzo è stato selezionato (tra ben 2500 brani) per entrare a far parte della compilation europea di Emergenza Festival. La seconda data, dedicata alle band emergenti metal, si apre con un’esibizione alquanto accattivante del gruppo Only Dust. Nati nel Febbraio 2007 dall’unione di Polly (voce), Mitch (chitarra), Mondo (chitarra), Teddy (basso) e Gory (batteria). Attingono molto da gruppi come Bring Me the Horizon, Bullet for My Valentine, Escape The Fate, From First to Last e LoveHateHero, e questo li spinge a scrivere musiche sempre molto dure, ma allo stesso tempo melodiche, sopra le quali il cantante mette in mostra le sue sorprendenti doti da screamer. Successivamente hanno suonato i Settimosenso, un gruppo di amici composto da Daniele (voce), Andrea (chitarra), Ste (chitarra), Corra (basso) e Fudo (batteria), che trae ispirazione principalmente dai Trivium e da tutta la corrente metalcore, e in parte dal thrash metal anni ’90. I testi (rigorosamente in italiano) sono resi pressoché incomprensibili dal growl tenebroso e sofferente del cantante, e sono affiancati da assoli e riff di chitarra forse a volte troppo complicati per essere eseguiti alla perfezione. Ma quello che più m’ha colpito è stata la prontezza del bassista di alzare il volume dell’amplificatore (nel bel mezzo della prestazione) in modo da rendere più grevi i suoni e apportando quindi un contributo notevole al risultato finale. E’ poi la volta dei Guelder Rose, band heavy metal che porta il nome di un fiore inglese di straordinaria bellezza. Nati nel Settembre 2003, dopo qualche modifica nella formazione, si presentano quest’anno composti da Ste (voce), Alessandro (chitarra), Matteo (basso) e Mattia (batteria). Buona la tecnica di tutti e quattro i membri della band, incalzanti ed esplosivi i pezzi proposti. Risentono indiscutibilmente di influenze provenienti dal metal anni ’80, in particolare dai Pantera e dagli storici Iron Maiden, dei quali il cantante reinterpreta i sorprendenti acuti; peccato che quest’ultimo non fosse nella sua migliore condizione e che per questo non sia riuscito a dare particolare lustro alle sue doti canore, per capire meglio di cosa sto parlando è il caso che diate un’occhiata al blog della band www.myspace.com/guelderrose.
Ad esibirsi per ultimi sono stati i Nergal: un gruppo di autentici cultori del metal più estremo che, pur essendo equipaggiati solo di chitarra, basso e batteria semplice, danno vita a pezzi lenti ma violenti, in cui si ritrovano paesaggi infernali e cupe atmosfere. Indiscutibile è la tecnica dei tre musicisti, così come quella del cantante, il cui growl molesto da voce a una vera e propria messa nera, interrotta di tanto in tanto da suggestivi assoli di chitarra e da pregevoli giri di basso e di batteria. Un vero peccato che il tempo a loro disposizione non sia stato sufficiente a terminare un’ottima prestazione: infatti, allo scadere dei trenta minuti, sono stati brutalmente interrotti, scatenando l’ira funesta del frontman, il quale, a sua volta, si è categoricamente rifiutato di concedermi un’intervista.
Nel terzo e ultimo giorno vediamo esibirsi due band tanto singolari quanto accattivanti. I primi sono i Figli del Parcheggio: un gruppo di Vimodrone nato per caso una sera del Gennaio 2007, quando gli Sputnix non si presentarono sul palco dell’Area di Carugate e il fonico del locale, ora batterista della band, decise di contattare Gabriele (odierno tastierista) e il fratello di quest’ultimo, proponendo di “tappare il buco” improvvisando un paio di pezzi. Il risultato, a distanza di un anno, è un gruppo che fa dell’improvvisazione la sua forma d’espressione musicale peculiare e della capacità di fondere insieme più generi differenti l’uno dall’altro, come ska e reggae, blues e jazz, italian folk e classic rock anni ’60 e ’70, la continua ricerca di stimoli e di idee innovatrici. La loro musica è terapeutica, rilassante, introspettiva, e nei loro pezzi, che sembrano essere suddivisi in più parti per intensità e velocità, trova spazio ora uno stacchetto di tip-tap del batterista, ora un assolo di basso, ora uno scambio di ruoli tra tastierista e batterista. Un gruppo sensazionale, musicalmente rivoluzionario, che suo malgrado (mi confessa il tastierista Gabriele) fatica a trovare locali dove poter suonare, forse a causa del loro essere troppo sperimentali. In ogni caso consiglio vivamente a chiunque sia interessato di ascoltarli dal vivo, le date dei live sono inserite periodicamente nel blog www.myspace.com/figlidelparcheggio.
A chiudere la fase a eliminatorie vi sono gli Oneiros. Il nome fu proposto dal vecchio chitarrista ed è una parola greca che sta ad indicare un castello fantastico, dal quale, secondo la mitologia greca, defluiscono i sogni realizzati e quelli irrealizzati. I loro pezzi sono emozionanti: le parole e le note descrivono in modo esaustivo e senza mezzi termini sentimenti forti, realmente vissuti, che colpiscono dritto al cuore e alla mente di noi che coatti li ascoltiamo. La loro energica presenza sul palco è in perfetta simbiosi con l’incisività delle loro canzoni, dalle quali traspare quel violento male di vivere che ha caratterizzato prima la scena grunge di Seattle, poi l’alternative Rock nostrano di gruppi quali Afterhours, Marlene Kuntz, Mercanti di Liquore ed in particolar modo Verdena. Imperdibili i loro tre demo, così come i loro live, tutti rintracciabili su www.myspace.com/oneirosband.
In conclusione volevo complimentarmi con tutti i gruppi che hanno partecipato al concorso, auspicando un futuro quanto più importante possibile a ciascuno e confidando nella giuria (risultata, a mio avviso, tanto inadatta quanto distratta) per una sensata votazione.
